About Jenny Widmark
Jenny is an audiologist with a master's degree in audiology. She is employed in a regional deafblind team in the Västra Götaland region and works in a resource group for technology and aids at the National Ressource Center for Deafblindness.
Jenny's research questions are based on several years of clinical work and from meetings with people with combined visual and hearing impairment/deafblindness. The digital development is going faster and faster - everyone must get on the "digital train", even people with deafblindness. How can they use their hearing aids/cochlear implants to compensate for a visual impairment/blindness in the use of digital tools?
We not only need to identify barriers that exist, we also need to remove them. For this, there is a lack of both evidence and methods for audiologists to rely on. In Jenny's thesis work, she wishes to gain increased knowledge and understanding of how people with dual sensory loss/deafblindness use their sense of hearing and various forms of technical solutions to function in their daily (digital) lives. What kind of technology and rehabilitation support is needed to be digitally involved?
The goal with the thesis work is to draw attention to the target group's specific needs and discuss the necessary technology and support efforts for an increased digital participation.
