About Gustav Westberg

Gustav Westberg is Associate Professor of Swedish language. His research is anchored in multimodal critical discourse analysis and revolves around the material and affective prerequisites of discourses. Currently, he studies how notions of ‘authenticity’ are negotiated when clothes, food and other commodities are branded as Sámi. Furthermore, he does research on contemporary political extremism and how it re-emerges through embodied semiotics. Together with colleagues in the Swedish subject he also explores the relationship between international air travel, communication and affect.

Gustav is the PI of the research project Antisemitic manifestations - the semiotics of antisemitism in Sweden and experiences among Jewish youth, funded by the Swedish Research Council (2023–2027).

Gustav is the coordinator of the research group Multimodal Communication.

Gustav coordinates and teaches at the BA programme Language, Rhetoric, and Communicative Leadership, as well as on the teacher programme.
