About Elina Mäki-Torkko

Elina Mäki-Torkko is a professor in medical audiology at the School of Medical Sciences at Örebro university since November 2016. She is also the head of the Audiological research centre at Örebro university hospital and a senior consultant in medical audiology at the audiological clinic at Örebro university hospital. She is associate professor at University of Oulu, Finland (2007-) and guest professor at Linköping university (2017-). She is since 2016 scientific advisor in audiology at the National Board of Health since 2016. 

One of Mäki-Torkkos main research interests is hearing epidemiology, especially regarding age-related hearing impairment in collaboration with the University of Oulu. In 2002-2006 she participated in a European research collaboration ARHI (QLRT 2001-00331) aiming to investigate environmental, medical and genetic factors related to age-related hearing impairment. She is also leading longitudinal studies on benefits of cochlear implants in adults. An example of ongoing international collaboration is a systematic review on consequences of permanent unilateral hearing impairment with onset before three years of age.
