Short Biography: Associate Professor Daphne Weihs is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Technion since 2006. She obtained her PhD at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Technion (2004), and was a post-graduate researcher at the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine, Medical School, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA, 2004-2006). Her current research is focused on mechanobiology in the contexts of wound prevention and healing, skin mechanics, and cancer invasion and progression and personalization of diagnostics and treatment. She has authored over 60 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 15 book chapters and conference papers, and over 150 contributions to International and National Conferences. Her research is funded by highly competitive governmental scientific funding agencies. She is a Trustee of the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP) and serves on the EPUAP Scientific and Research committees. She has served on various International Panels and Steering committees, such as the European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grants, Expert Panel for International Collaboration Grants at the Flanders Research Foundation, and the Review Panel for Council for Higher Education, and has reviewed grant proposals for different international governmental agencies. Prof. Weihs is an Editorial Board Member of the journals Medical Engineering and Physics (Elsevier publishing), Biophysical Journal (Cell Press), and Academic Editor in PloS One (PLOS publishing). She was Co-Editor in Chief of the journal In Silico Cell and Tissue Science (Springer publishing) and Associate Editor of the journal Convergent Science Physical Oncology (IoP Publishing). She has guest edited special issues in the Journal of Biomechanics and in Convergent Science Physical Oncology. She is currently a Visiting Scientist at KU Leuven, Gent University, and Hasselt University in Belgium and at the Technical University in Eindhoven (TU/e) in the Netherlands.
