Frontline research
The Centre for Applied Autonomous Sensor Systems (AASS) at Örebro University, founded in 1998, is an internationally recognised research centre which performs research on autonomous systems, with a focus on their perceptual and cognitive capabilities. The centre is known for its expertise within artificial intelligence and robotics, and their integration. It has a strong tradition of working together in close collaboration with industrial partners in Sweden and around the world. With more than 40 PhD students, and a highly international group, you can work with leading researchers and be part of a fun and stimulating work environment. The centre also hosts a number of top lab environments, with many robot platforms.
Collaboration is key
When it comes to AI development, no one is an island. Collaboration is in our DNA as it’s only by working together that we can accelerate the development and use of AI. We have a long experience in collaborative projects with industry, as well as conducting basic research within Autonomous Systems and AI. By being a vital part of initiatives such as AI Sweden, WASP and AI Competence, we collaborate regionally, nationally and within Europe both in terms of research, education and infrastructure.
A national AI node
Örebro may not be the biggest of cities, but with its strategic location in the middle of Sweden, Örebro serves as a hub in the country and is an important centre for meetings, networks and logistics. Örebro University may not be the oldest of universities, but it is a thriving university that fosters AI and that has rapidly gained national and international recognition for its AI research, education and collaboration.
Innovation for a better future
For us, it’s vital that our research benefits society and contributes to a sustainable future. Therefore, innovation and utilisation are natural and important parts of everything we do. Through the regional innovation support system and the university's major initiative ORU Innovation Arena, we help our researchers to go from idea to impact.
