Process and decision
Each faculty board has an academic appointments committee that prepares applications for appointment as a recognised university teacher and distinguished university teacher prior to a decision by the faculty board.
The following steps are included in the process:
- The application is emailed to registrator@oru.se. (Application forms can be found on the pages for recognised university teachers and distinguished university teachers.)
- The administrative officer (see below) reviews the application and requests any supplementary documents from the applicant.
- When the application is complete, the administrative officer presents the matter before the academic appointments committee. The committee decides if the application is to be forwarded to an external expert for assessment.
- The administrative officer asks the Centre for Academic Development to propose a suitable external expert (given a positive decision by the committee).
- The chair of the academic appointments committee appoints the external expert.
- The administrative officer sends the application and annexes to the external expert, who is expected to deliver an assessment within two months.
- When the external expert opinion has been submitted, the administrative officer presents the case before the academic appointments committee, where a decision is taken whether to recommend the faculty board to approve or reject the application.
- The administrative officer presents the matter before the faculty board, where a decision is made either to approve or reject the application.
The administrative officer notifies the applicant of the decision and, if the application has been approved, issues a certificate.
All in all, the process normally takes around 6 months. The administrative officer will keep the applicant informed during the process.
An applicant who has had their application rejected, either by the academic appointments committee or the faculty board, is welcome to submit a new application at a later date.
